What They Don’t Tell You About School Leadership (But You Learn Fast)
You know what they don’t tell you about becoming a school leader?
That sometimes you’ll be drafting observation notes one minute…
And figuring out how to support a school community in the middle of a crisis the next.
They don’t tell you that you’ll need to be an instructional coach, culture builder, HR manager, community liaison, and crisis responder — all before 10 AM.
They don’t tell you that you’ll spend your Sunday night rehearsing how to hold someone accountable without sounding “too harsh” or “too emotional.”
They don’t tell you that, some days, leadership feels nothing like what the job description promised.
But here’s what I’ve learned — from my own principalship, and now from coaching hundreds of women across the country in their leadership:
